Update 3 April 2005 This message was sent
through the Local's new facility-wide listserves
Not quite two weeks ago, I posted on the One- and Two-Way lists that NATCA had set up all new servers and software to operate the Union's listserves nationwide. This meant transferring all of our subscribers to our various lists to the new lists as well as creating lists for those areas that did not yet have them. Effective immediately, all of the areas, plus TMU and Staff each have their own list serves. And, of course, the One- and Two-Way lists for facility-wide issues are already up and running.
The good news for our technically-challenged Members is that you need do
nothing to continue receiving and replying to messages from any list to
which you are subscribed! Everyone who was subscribed, is still
subscribed. The only reason you would need to make any changes is if
you want to start a topic (or post a message without having it be a
reply to something that you received). But to do so, all you'll have to
do is use the new addresses shown here:
Any email you get from these lists will be addressed to the addresses
shown here so if you like to use filters or message rules to move or
highlight your email, you can use the addresses. Another option is to
use the "Subject Lead" as those will display at the beginning of every
subject line you get - even if the initial post has no specified
subject.*
Now, the other thing, of course, is the fact that many of our areas had
no previous list serve. So to start out, every Member in the specified
area for whom we have an email address has been subscribed. I will send
out simple instructions to each individual list serve since even some of
the established area lists have new subscribers.
The last thing you need to know is that the old lists will cease to
exist on or shortly after Monday, 11 APR 2005. You can continue to
use the old addresses until then but I would HIGHLY recommend you update
your address books as soon as you can. I can not control when the old
lists are terminated so it's possible they might go early.
If you have any questions, please email me directly at zfwcomms@natca.net.
It may be weeks before I see any questions here on the lists since I get
so much email.
Fraternally,
M. B. "Colonel" Ingersoll Communications, NATCA Local ZFW zfwcomms@natca.net
* Of course, the only people who can send messages to the One-Way list
are the President, Vice President, and a few others but it is listed
here for those who may wish to set filters or message rules.
Update 28 March 2005 This message was sent
through the Local's new facility-wide listserves
Effective immediately, the new versions
of the two facility-wide list serves (the "One-Way" and the "Two-Way" or
"ZFW Announce" and "ZFW Voice") are in use. Everyone who was subscribed to
the old versions is subscribed to the new versions. You don't have
to do anything to continue to receive messages from these two lists or reply
to the "two-way."
However, if you want to initiate
a message (that is, send a message without making it a reply to a previously
sent message) you must update the addresses in your email program.
Here are the new addresses:
Please note that the periods in the addresses
were changed to dashes and the domain is now list.natca.net.
If you use filters or message rules to sort your messages
into different folders, you can use the new addresses in the "TO" field or,
if you want to use the "SUBJECT" field, the new subject tags (this is a
change from the first announcement) are now ZFW-ONE-WAY for
the one-way list and ZFW-TWO-WAY for the two-way list.
The old addresses will continue to work as we transition
over but please make the changes to your address books as soon as you can
and use the new addresses. The old addresses will cease to exist at some
point in the not too distant future - and I'll let you know when that as
soon as I know when that is.
I have some administrative tweaking to do on the two-way
and then I'll be working on the area lists. I'll post another message as
those come online.
Fraternally,
M. B. "Colonel" Ingersoll Communications, NATCA Local ZFW zfwcomms@natca.net

Information: This message was sent
through all of the Local's existing listserves *Please expand your browser window as much as practical.*
This message is going out to ALL of the existing
list serves for NATCA Local ZFW.
NATCA has set up all new servers and software to operate
the Union's listserves nationwide. This will mean some changes for us at
ZFW. The addresses of all the lists are changing but, for right now, you
don't need to do anything. Nothing is going to change for about a week (I
hope!).
But I would encourage you to save this message and use
it, when you have time, to prepare your email software for the new system.
If you do nothing, you should continue to receive messages from the lists to
which you are subscribed. And you will be able to reply to them, as well
(except the "One-Way" list, of course), even if you don not make
the changes. However, if you do not make the changes, you
will not be able to initiate a message (in other words, create the first
message on a new topic).
I will list all the changes (and there will be some new
lists created) below. And another important change will be in the Subject
lines - Currently the first part of the subject says "ZFW Voice" or "ZFW
POS" or something of that nature. Many of us use those Subject lines to
create filters (or "Message Rules" in Outlook Express). These Subject line
will change so, if you use filters/rules, you will want to add
these to the appropriate rules in order to have uninterrupted "filtering" of
your messages. There's no need to delete the old filters/rules.*
Last two notes before I show the changes - I only handle
the list serves for our Local - any changes to NSW or NNH lists will
be handled by those administrators (now known as "list owners"). Secondly,
many of our subscribers were dropped when the NCC initially set up the new
system (and, UKW, your list was completely ignored) so I'm having to go
through each list and get everyone back on board - this is time-consuming
but I'm working through them all as quickly as I can. I hope to
have everything set when we make the change-over. Again, this problem is
only with the new lists!
OK, below are the existing lists and their corresponding
new lists. If you have any questions, please
email me directly
as I cannot monitor all the list serve traffic. [Note the "." characters
change to "-" and the addition of "list." to the domain name...]

notifications from going out to you, but sometimes I miss it.
Thanks for your patience during this huge change.

* The Subject line text (e.g. "ZFW One-Way") may not be
displayed by default. I'm working on that. Until you see the Subject line
text, I would recommend that you not use that for filters/rule, but set your
filters/rules to recognize the address (e.g.
zfw-announce@list.natca.net) in the "To:"
line. That will work.
** Don't recall exactly what the text is now and the
current system is locked for now so I can't check it.
